In patients’ own words

Real recoveries

Brendan BenfieldArthritis

“I came to see Robyn because I had arthritic pain in the small joint of my little finger. Robyn applied Kinesio Tape to my joint in a manner which completely relieved my pain by the second session. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome and recommend Robyn to assist you with your hand pain.”

Anton RoseTrigger Finger

“Over a year ago I took up rowing after 23 years and severe trigger finger developed. I was unable to do any training, exercise or rowing. In only 6 sessions Robyn was able to fix my finger without the need for steroid injections or surgery.”

Bryce BritzTrauma & Stiffness

“I started off not being able to move a finger following a traumatic crush and degloving injury, I have now regained almost full hand function. Robyn also provided me with a very professional report, which my insurance company was most impressed with. Robyn helped me regain my life.”

Robert JewellJoint Injury

“I fell off my horse and injured my index finger badly. I tried to treat my finger myself for a while and eventually went to see Robyn when the pain and swelling did not improve. Robyn used a few techniques to relieve pain and increase motion and ultimately used a removable cast to help me direct the motion to the stiff joint. I could not believe the improvement through the use of this technique. I highly recommend Robyn to help you with your hand injury.”

Jabulani MakondoTendon Injury & Stiffness

“I lacerated my fingers and needed to have Tendon repair surgery. I was referred to Robyn and at our first appointment, I was unable to move my fingers at all. Robyn applied the Casting Technique and in only two sessions I regained full Active Range of Motion in my fingers. I am grateful to Robyn for her skill and expertise in helping me use my hand again.”

Ruth KumaliCarpal Tunnel & Tennis Elbow

“I came to see Robyn because I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. She also diagnosed Tennis Elbow. I have learnt so much from Robyn and could not believe how effective her techniques are. I was completely relieved of pain and could sleep through the night. I could not believe how in only 5 sessions I have been cured of pain and pins & needles and can sleep through the night. I made the right decision to see Robyn.”

Sean RossouwElbow, Arm & Wrist Pain

“I couldn’t lift anything or raise my arm above my head, and I was relying on heavy doses of pain medication through the day. Doctors had recommended operating on my shoulder and arm. I came to Robyn as a sceptic, for a second opinion. After five sessions I’m pain-free in my arm. Give it a try. I dare you.”

Janine FriedmanCarpal Tunnel Syndrome, Both Hands

“I had severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both hands and would wake with complete numbness. Surgery was not an option for me, so I opted to try an alternative approach. After the first session I felt immense relief and sensation returned to my hands. I was discharged after three sessions. Give it a shot! You can lose nothing. If I can avoid surgery then this is the way to go.”

Thabo Setai — part IStroke rehabilitation

“The difference is I leave OT in pain, with very little movement. But here — no pain and more movement. And you didn’t even touch my body.”

Thabo Setai — part IIStroke rehabilitation

Robyn’s note Session two with Thabo: reduced flexor tone, fingers opening further, and controlled movement where there used to be shake and tremor.

“It felt very relaxing, very calming… I am able to walk normally again.”

Common questions

Do I need a doctor’s referral to book?
No — you can contact us directly to book an appointment. If you have been referred by a doctor or surgeon, please bring any referral letter, reports or imaging with you.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring any relevant medical reports, X-rays or scans, a list of current medication, and details of your medical aid if you have one. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the affected arm.
Do you offer virtual or online consultations?
Yes. Hand Consult SA runs a virtual hand clinic, and research supports the efficacy of virtual hand care. At your initial consultation we’ll decide together whether online treatment is suitable or whether an in-practice visit is needed.
Do you offer emergency consultations?
Yes. We prioritise swift diagnosis and intervention because delays can compromise functional outcomes, and we stand ready to provide emergency consultations when specialist care is needed urgently.
What is the CMMS technique?
Casting Motion to Mobilise Stiffness (CMMS) is a specialist casting technique that treats the stiff hand in a cost- and time-efficient way, releasing joint tightness so movement can be restored — often without multiple treatment sessions.
Where are you based?
Hand Consult SA is based at the Houghton Medical Suites, 53 2nd Avenue, Houghton, Johannesburg, 2198.
